  • Careful when the variables drop out! - either a TRUE or a FALSE statement is left. If TRUE: {x|x is any Real Number} If FALSE, then { } (empty set)

  • showing solutions to equations and inequalities
    • Numerically (set notation if = sign, or interval notation if < or >)
    • Graphically (pt on a number line if = sign, shaded range if < or >)

    • numerically - can't repeat domain values (x's)
    • graphically - passes the vertical line test
    • algebraically - solve eqn for y and get only 1 eqn
  • Evaluate a function
    • algebraically - f(3) if f(x) = 2x + 1
    • graphically - find the y value of the point on the line
    • numerically - looking at a set of ordered pairs
  • obtain information about a function from its graph
    • domain
    • range
    • value of the function at a point on the graph
  • Identify the domain of a function in its Algebraic form
